Michel Craplet
Alcohol, the Foremost Addiction Overcoming a Chronic Illness Publication date : June 30, 2021
Michel Craplet, a psychiatrist and alcoholic, is the senior medical advisor for the French National Association for the Prevention of Alcoholism.
Michel Craplet, a psychiatrist and expert in alcohol-related problems, their treatment and prevention, has launched a cry of alarm: “We must still and always talk about alcohol.” His book, presented as an imaginary dialogue with a journalist, looks back at people’s relationship with alcohol, the role of alcohol consumption in society, excessive consumption, the different ways of viewing alcoholics, the evolution of policies of prevention and care in a context in which assessment has assumed a predominant role to the detriment of more humane treatments.
This defense of a certain approach to care stresses the unique nature of the issues connected to alcoholism and to those who suffer from it. Is there a French curse, in the words of the author, in not wanting to fully appreciate the seriousness of alcoholism?
