The World of Scarecrows Publication date : November 1, 2001

In 1997 in Tautavel, France, Rose Dausset opened an art exposition dedicated to scarecrows throughout the world. This primitive, everyday art form is as ancient as it is universal, dating back to the first prehistoric farmers and found all over the world.
Scarecrows, elegant or ragged, regal or humble, dressed in traditional clothing, are valuable witnesses of their time and their land. Occasionally, their creators were true artists. Unfortunately, new farming technology has gradually replaced their presence in the fields.
The photographs in this beautiful album were assembled from twenty-five countries and serve as a preservation of this fragile art form that reflects man's intimate relationship with his environment and his homeland.
