Institut de France-Science Génération, Aventis Foundation Colloquium
22, 23 and 24 October 2001
Now that the life sciences play such an active part in altering the genetic heredity of living organisms, a number of ethical and legal questions have arisen. These questions are linked both to the potential risks involved in such cases and to the moral limits that should or should not be established when tampering with life. Where our society places such limits depends on its cultural mores.
The subject of Science Generations first colloquium Biosciences: Risks, Ethics and Society fully justifies the overall view that the Insitut de France, aided by the Aventis Foundation, wished to bring to the discussions, with the hope of contributing a multicultural approach to the issues raised, writes François Gros.
