wounded souls Publication date : September 17, 2014

Boris Cyrulnik is a neuropsychiatrist and director of studies at the University of Toulon. He is the author of many immensely successful works published by Editions Odile Jacob, notably: Un merveilleux malheur, Les Vilains Petits Canards, Les Nourritures affectives, Parler d’amour au bord du gouffre, De chair et d’âme, Autobiographie d’un épouvantail, Je me souviens and, in 2012, Sauve-toi, la vie t’appelle, which sold more than 200,000 copies.

In the first volume of his memoirs, Boris Cyrulnik recounted the devastating events of his traumatic childhood during the Second World War. The book ended when he entered a Paris lycée.
How does a child grow up and construct himself after living through such trauma? How did Boris Cyrulnik — a hidden child who grew up in the presence of death — become the eminent psychiatrist we know today? These are some of the questions that the author answers here, in this second volume, with great sincerity and deep emotion.
The present volume covers his student years, his study of medicine and neuropsychiatry and his meetings with some of the world’s most eminent psychiatrists.
During his hospital work he witnessed more incredible events. Some of the scenes the author describes — and which will remind certain readers of the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest — marked the author for life.
