Institut de France-Science Génération, Aventis Foundation Colloquium
22, 23 and 24 October 2001

“Now that the life sciences play such an active part in altering the genetic heredity of living organisms, a number of ethical and legal questions have arisen. These questions are linked both to the potential risks involved in such cases and to the moral limits that should — or should not — be established when tampering with life. Where our society places such limits depends on its cultural mores.
“The subject of Science Generation’s first colloquium — Biosciences: Risks, Ethics and Society — fully justifies the overall view that the Insitut de France, aided by the Aventis Foundation, wished to bring to the discussions, with the hope of contributing a multicultural approach to the issues raised,” writes François Gros.
