On receiving a cancer diagnosis, most patients feel the world has come crashing down. Yet, cancer can be treated and increasingly longer periods of remission are being obtained, and it can sometimes even be cured.
Following a cancer diagnosis, patients must learn to face the disease and live with it to the best of their ability. The first steps to be taken are: understanding the disease, choosing where to be treated, establishing a partnership with one’s physician, and assessing the psychological impact. Patients must also understand their rights and follow the correct administrative procedures.
This book will prove to be an indispensable personal, medical and administrative guide to cancer.
It provides clear, accessible definitions of different forms of cancer treatment and of the technical terms a patient is likely to encounter. Also included here are one hundred questions with answers concerning hospital care, employers, health insurance, home care, etc.
