Steven Laureys is a neurologist and head of research at FNRS [Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique - National Fund for Scientific Research]. He is director of the Centre du cerveau2 [Brain Center2] at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Liège and the research unit GIGA Consciousness and Coma Science Group at the Université de Liège. Known for his work on the consciousness of brain damaged patients, he is the author of the best-selling Un si brillant cerveau [Such a Brilliant Brain].
After demonstrating in his previous work the effects of meditation on the body and mind, in this new book Steven Laureys invites us to begin meditating, by proposing simple, progressive exercises whose effectiveness has been proven. The author, himself, has practiced these exercises to regain balance in his life, and he explains the benefits of them. To distance oneself from disturbing thoughts, be more attentive to one’s feelings, breathe better – these are some of the positive changes that practicing meditation can bring. Through their effect on cerebral function, these exercises will help change it in a positive way with concrete results in daily life: less stress, better sleep, more concentration, less anxiety, with anti-depressive effects… to regain overall well-being. It has been scientifically proven that our brain is in complex interaction with our entire body, and our immune system in particular. The practice of meditation with its multiple benefits for our health is made accessible to everyone thanks to the compassionate guidance of Steven Laureys.
