A Single Ethical System for All? Publication date : November 1, 1997
Faced with technical and medical progress, today's societies find themselves confronted with new ethical questions. Yet, for each culture the answers are different. Is it possible to resolve all of these problems without imposing a uniformity that would nullify all differences ? How can we create a society that is fair and stable, made of free and equal citizens yet still divided by their different moral doctrines, philosophies, and religions ? Can a society prosper when such fundamental differences exist between its citizens ? Can we teach tolerance, and if so, how ? This symposium has united doctors, researchers, philosophers, religious figures, anthropologists, neuropsychologists, legal experts and educators that each contribute a newperspective.
