Breast Cancer Knowledge Empowers Publication date : June 4, 2014

Jacques Saglier is a surgeon specialising in cancer and in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. He works in Paris, at the Fondation Saint-Jean-de-Dieu and at the Centre de Cancérologie des Peupliers. He is the author of numerous works about breast cancer.
Joseph Gligorov is an oncologist at Hôpital Tenon (Paris), which is part of the Cancer Institute of Paris-VI University.

Every day, a thousand new cases of cancer are diagnosed in France; 150 of these concern breast cancer, generally of a multiple nature and requiring personalised treatments. It is evident that patients must be well informed, in order to discuss their cases with medical staff as active empowered participants in the struggle against the disease.
Doctors Saglier and Gligorov, both practising oncologists, have gathered here a wide range of information covering current medical knowledge, personal experiences and testimonials, to give readers a better grasp of a manifold disease.
The book addresses patients, the main actors in this life struggle, as well as their families and friends. Besides presenting scientific and technical information, the book also deals with the practical aspects of treatment and with the psychological repercussions of the disease.
Extensive information is provided here on the latest, improved screening and diagnostic techniques; on advances in surgery (conservation, breast reconstruction); research in chemotherapy; optimisation of indicators and treatment modalities.

• In 20 years, new cases of breast cancer have increased by 60%.
• The information provided here, clearly and accessibly, reflects patients’ frequently asked questions.
• In the 15 years since it was first published this book has become a work of reference for thousands of patients. It is now available in a new, revised and extended edition.
