Addressing Incest Publication date : September 30, 2005

In this book, three psychiatrists study the cases of young women who were incest victims ten years ago and who now live in a home for victims of sexual abuse. The psychiatrists worked not only with the victims but also with their abusers and families. They examine what we know about incest and how it is addressed.
They warn against a fatalistic attitude toward incest; they also warn against the trivialisation or the sanctification of the incest trauma.
Drawing on their long experience, the authors give us a complete examination of the trauma, and they explain what should be done to ensure that incest victims are heard and receive adequate treatment. The authors emphasise that the family as a whole must be treated and not just the victims.
