The unconscious is too serious a matter to be left exclusively to psychoanalysts, argues Pierre Buser. Although he corroborates the psychoanalytical unconscious, he shows here that there are numerous other types of unconscious, which he then studies systematically from a neurobiological point of view.
He demonstrates that the brain’s normal way of functioning is unconscious and that only the unconscious can explain creativity.

Pierre Buser, a neurobiologist, is a member of the French Academy of Sciences and professor emeritus at the University Pierre-et-Marie-Curie. He is regarded as the founding father of the cognitive sciences in France.
