This book retraces the live of one of our greatest scientists, from his birth in the Ukraine to his acceptance of the Nobel prize in Stockholm. The narration is divided in two parts. In the first, D. Saudinos recreates the formative experiences of the young Charpak, his immigration to France in the 1930 s, his participation in the Resistance, his deportation, political engagement, and the birth of his passion for science. Then the scientist, himself, picks up the pen to explain the evolution of his work through fascinating encounters and magical discoveries.
